On 24 September 2009 should take off our plane in the morning to Fuerteventura. To included in the price "train to the plane" to use (it is quite a price-conscious environment ... well ...), we have already started because of the otherwise available on trains in the evening of 23 September and made the night into day!
Almost without sleep and with a lot of time waiting at the airport, we reached the island in the early morning hours. Located in the resort of Playa de Esquinzo - about 1.5 hours transfer time from the airport, so we already on the way there - although very tired, but still relatively receptive - to get a first impression of the island.
Fuerteventura is like a different world - the island we were greeted with absolute barrenness.
We saw on the whole trip only mountains, rocks, dried-up bushes, sand and scattered houses. ... We liked this almost lunar-like landscape and we were excited about what we should expect at the destination.
We had the 4 **** Hotel Ambar Beach posted, which, as written above, is located in the resort of Playa de Esquinzo.
The place is small, there are a few supermarkets, but no long boulevards. It's just a cozy place and right for those seeking rest and relaxation.
Bay is a hotel here, so you should still be relatively easy walk, as most hotels are located high on a Mountain and the beach is only a few steps or ways to achieve but already perceptible slope. From our hotel, we needed about 20 minutes for the line ... down 5 minutes and high 15 minutes, until they reached the top with really drooling (ok ... maybe we are not representative of the general population. Let us not complain because we knew that it is only just that way - but they had underestimated the fact that we had neglected to endurance sports - the last 20 years).
If this does not interfere, is rewarded with a great view:
And the view from the hotel is not bad:
The first days of our vacation was spent in the near to explore surroundings. away via the beach, within walking distance, is Jandia (5 km). It took us one way in about an hour on the beautiful sandy beach with a truly Caribbean-blue water along.

While We walked along the beach, we had always left the view of the water that was hard to beat. However, had the other side does not hide ... mountains and white houses have a certain charm:
The first look at Jandia: a wider, brighter sandy beach with clear water.
Jandia is much tourism as Playa de Esquinzo, but no less interesting. Especially for us :-) A long beach promenade at which a business follows the other and ignite the credit card! We are in our element - SHOPPING! Sometimes even into the late evening hours:

hundreds of dollars later, we decided to prefer one to the running the opposite direction, although our wallet, our legs did not so good.
Costa Calma is not only 5 km, but only 13 km away. But after we had learned from a reliable source that the path is not really difficult and would be easily doable, we ventured to the hike (übrigens. .. this source we do not believe so fast ...).
short and painless: to run the way worth it, but we had to go to the physical pain threshold and were nearly drowned because we initially refused to climb a sand mountain (you should plan with the tide!). Rewarded
we were but with these wonderful impressions:

Back dangers we are by the way, after a long ... long ... long pause (with the benefit of the world's best garlic pizza at an Italian in the city) by bus!
After we had explored on foot all that we wanted to watch the rest of the island by car. Ajuy, a small and primitive fishing village located in the west of the island, despite the black sand to look great. Attraction of the town are the caves that we explored not.
While driving on the island we covered some altitude and were rewarded with such beautiful views.

The tour went to the former capital of the island, Betancuria which lies inland.
About Our tour continues to the north - over the current capital Puerto del Rosario. By this we went only short passes, as the city - we have benefited her that Sunday was - seemed quite extinct.
The tourist city of Corralejo inspired us not so much as the directions on a road sandumwehte: has
Total Fuerteventura us very much. The beaches and the water have completely enthusiastic. The somewhat unusual landscape has impressed us, that must not, however, each Sun
The island has for us just the right mix of beach, sun, sea, shopping, tourism, tranquility and discovery. For us in any case worth a visit!
Our rating: There

deductions only in the B-Note ": The food at the hotel was a bit monotonous after a few days and the north of the island in our opinion not very nice.
